Help from Aromatherapy in Pregnancy
When pregnant, there is nothing more pleasing and relaxing than a nice aromatherapy massage. Though care and attention is required, in particular during the first trimester with regards to the use of essential oils. Oils which would normally be deemed as safe oils, are no longer safe to use during this first three to four months of pregnancy. Oils such as Lavender, Fennel (sweet), Peppermint, Rose and Rosemary. After this time then only use them in the smallest of amounts and ensuring they are well diluted.
Oils to be avoided throughout pregnancy are Basil, Clary Sage, Hyssop, Juniper, Marjoram, Myrrh and Sage.
One of the nicest and safest of oils that can be used during pregnancy is mandarin. It can also be used as part of a blend to help in the prevention of stretch marks – 1 drop of Lavender, 1 drop of Mandarin and one drop of Neroli to 10mls of almond oil and 2mls of wheatgerm oil. Using it daily, preferably twice a day from about the 5 th month of pregnancy makes it really effective.
