The Best Self Hypnosis Techniques For Self Improvement

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

by Louise Servage

Learning self hypnosis can be a lot easier than it sounds. It can be learnt in the quiet of your own home without spending any money on things like books, audio tapes, expensive visits to hypnotists or spiritual gurus.

Putting into practice a few simple techniques to bring yourself to a state of deep relaxation can be very easy and rewarding. The most important thing is to find a place that offers complete comfort and quiet. The last thing you need once reaching a state of deep relaxtion is to be disturbed part way through.

You’ll also want to learn how to relax your muscles, how to sit or lay down, and you’ll also want to learn what to do once you are in a subconscious state.

Going Under

A subconscious state is often referred to as “going under”. This generally means that the conscious mind is “asleep” so a hypnotist can talk directly to the subconscious mind. You will be able to do this yourself when you learn some self hypnosis techniques which have been known to work.

Please remember that different people will use different techniques. It is always best to try a variety of techniques before settling on the one that works best for you.

Find a comfortable space where you will not be disturbed for quite a long period of time. When first attempting self hypnosis dont be discouraged if it takes you more than an hour to officially “go under”. Make sure you chose a place with complete quiet and where you feel most at ease. Remember to turn off phones and other things that may disturb you. Full concentration will be needed to focus on the self hypnosis techniques.

Focus on your breathing, relax every muscle in your body and concentrate on not thinking about anything at all. Soon, you’ll find yourself in a deep state of relaxation. This is as close to sleep as you can get without actually falling asleep. Once there, you can do whatever you want to do.

Many people often have a manuscript they use whilst they are under to help them achieve a goal. The script is often a mantra to aid in things like quitting smoking, dieting, improving their memory or to learn self love. Most often it is used for some form of self improvement.

It is your own personal preference as to what goals you wish to achieve with self hypnosis. It may be for self improvement, it could just as easily be simply a way to relax from the stresses of day to day life. Only you will know what you want and need. With enough practise, you will soon become a master at self hypnosis.

The Basics Of Meditation

The concept of meditation to relax one’s senses has caught on like wildfire amongst today’s youth. Most people mistake meditation with other popular spiritual exercises, which is a misconception. One doesn’t have to be spiritually inclined in order to reap benefits from meditation.

Medical practitioners all over the world have accepted the sheer ability of this art enthusiastically. Meditation is an essential key in the perfect working of your heart and soul. It calms you from within and keeps you healthy by ensuring proper utilization of oxygen and regulating blood flow.

When you meditate you can realize some very positive changes. This beneficial vitality that you gain gives you power and impetus to de-clutter your life. In this fashion you can make room for the realization of your dreams.

When you are able to channel this extra energy you are able to draw to yourself and from yourself success. It could be that you will be able to think of new and original (even miraculous) concepts that can be used in your current situations.

These wonderful possibilities will come about because you have taken the time to learn the art of meditation. Now it would be a mistake to think that meditation will be a cure all for you. Meditation won’t take away all the tasks demanding your attention.

The thing that can be done though, is for you to clear your self of the distracting auras. In your mind you have formed walls that come between you and your dreams. These walls are negative thoughts and distractions. These impediments play upon your physical well-being and your mental focus.

There are various types of meditation that you could choose from. It depends on your needs and on the time you can afford to spend in this process.

During transcendental meditation the subject keeps his/her eyes closed for twenty minutes without directing his/her thoughts in any particular fashion. This method eases your mind; while practicing the mindful meditation can bring about greater awareness in which one pays attention to one’s breathing patterns.

If you are a novice you may benefit from the more simple requirements of the Buddhist meditation. This requires you to sit vertically with your head vertical also, then you count to 10 letting out your breath with each count. Do this for 15 minutes.

Your spiritual belief might make you discount meditation as useful to you. However an ancient text known as Philokalia shows how Christian prayers may be used in meditation to allow a person to keep their meditations in line with their own religious or spiritual beliefs.

Meditation can play a vital part in our life by boosting our emotion and physical selves and clearing our minds to make way for the insights that can help us through our lives. Meditation can give to us the strength necessary to handle the vicissitudes of daily life, and peace of mind we need to achieve.

Very few people haven’t heard of meditation and its benefits. Time and again all over the world, research has shown that it has the ability to benefit all the aspects of a person as nothing else can.

When contemplating taking up meditation it is easy to be intimidated when contemplating the religious meanings. But if you are wanting to elevate your intellectual and bodily operations, you will want to make meditation a part of your day.

Here is a list of methods of meditation that you can use as a novice to get started.

1. Zen Buddhist Meditation Technique or Zazen- Zazen is more frequently thought of in religious terms, however this method’s effectiveness has been proven time and again since being put forth by Lord Buddha. It makes up the heart of Zen Buddhist ritual- it’s basic form is to sit up straight, no talking, and to focus on breathing.

Instructions- As a novice, begin by sitting up, and counting to 10, and letting out your breath after each number. After counting your breaths in and out go back to 1 and begin once more. If you are unable to maintain your focus while counting, redirect your focus onto your breaths and begin once more. As you become more skilled in this method, you can cease counting and focus solely on your breaths. It may take years to come to this point as focusing without counting is quite difficult to do. The Zen meditation method can lift your heart and soul, and increase your consciousness, and sensitivity.

2. Mantra Meditation Method- This popularly held form is the heart of the Hindu faith and is very effective. Its name explains its use. First choose a mantra, a sacred utterance, that can be repeated in your mind or with your lips. This sacred utterance assists you in focusing your chi or energy and allows you to be more able to help your concentrative abilities to grow.

You could try the So Hum Mantra Meditation. While you inhale, try to think of the sound Sooo, and the sound Hummm while you exhale. ‘So Hum’ can be translated as ‘I am That’. It means that you and divinity form a singular entity. What this process does is to open your emotional core and allows you to love without any inhibitions.

3. The Chakra Meditation Method- First off you need to understand what a Chakra is. Chakras are whirlpools of energy that you need to balance to be benefited by the Chakra Meditation Method. There are great gains to be had from this form of meditation and its many variants. When you gain a balance in your energies you can unlock and have stability in the flow of your charka and make great gains both emotionally and physically. Here is how you do it-

a. Position the Chakra on your body and focus on it. You will slowly become aware of that position and the process will unlock the energies stored there.

b. The Chakras are in direct relation to the ‘Beej mantra’ or the ’seed sound’. As you say the Chakra again and again, the target area is opened up and balances. Care is used in this method to prevent opening these areas too fast.

To discover the benefits for yourself try one of meditation try one of the above mentioned methods of meditation for yourself.
